See articles for full details. Youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cTJqNWwmf0 9 minute video from external source Motoring Masters We break down the inner workings of every major drivetrain system—Front-Wheel Drive (FWD), Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD), All-Wheel Drive (AWD), and 4x4. Discover how power flows from the engine through the transmission to the wheels and explore key components like transaxles, driveshafts, differentials, and transfer cases. Learn how FWD uses a compact, front-mounted, transverse layout for efficiency; how RWD delivers power to the rear wheels for dynamic performance; and how AWD and 4x4 systems distribute torque between all four wheels for superior traction and control. We also dive into advanced features, including differential locks, full-time 4x4 systems with center differentials, and how AWD’s electronically controlled multi-plate clutch automatically adjusts torque to maximize grip.

At pickup when you get to your 4wd may we suggest. Take a photo of the front, bonnet, roof, back, sides and under generally of the front (sump) area if you can. Check the fuel tank is full, if not photo and go back and show the staff from pickup your fuel tank photo (if they say ok at least you have a photo and told them). Check and record the mileage. Important check you know where the spare tyre is, check it and find the wheel jack. Locate the car manual and take the time to go thru it before you leave, especially the 4wd gear section if a 4wd hire. Handwrite the 24-hour car rental supplier’s emergency contact number and have it easily accessible everywhere you go in and out of the 4wd

  • With world events from natural and other events may we suggest you remember to look at and consider your ‘personal travel insurance’ (you as the hirer). Even being an Australian travelling within Australia, it can still be helpful as in the will leave that up to leave that up to you. For 4wd's - Just remember to make sure it says vehicle (if it says only ‘car’ call your insurer and ask if your 4wd rental is covered). For Campers - Just remember to make sure it says vehicle (if it says only ‘car’ call your insurer and ask if your camper rental is covered). Also check if the insurance says the follow the supplier terms and conditions it's important to know.

  • Water is available at most places, though its good to fill up if you were going to a remote area. The Northern Territory's (NT) hot and humid climate can cause dehydration. It's important to drink plenty of water and carry enough with you when you're out. Tap water in the NT is generally safe to drink, making it a convenient option for staying hydrated. If your careful you can use bottled water and also boil the tap water in remote areas. If you drink contaminated water in the top end of the NT Australia The term "Bali belly" specifically refers to traveler's diarrhea contracted in Bali, the underlying cause – contaminated food and water – can be found anywhere in the world, including Darwin, Australia. • I call it verge where the Bitumen merges onto the gravel on the side of sealed roads examples: Arnhem Highway and Kakadu Highways Bitumen is a key component in the construction of roads. It acts as a binder, holding together the aggregate materials like gravel and sand to create a durable and flexible road surface. Approximately 70% of bitumen production is used for road construction. After a very wet monsoon season we have seen over past years a difference in height where bitumen merges onto the gravel sometimes as much as a few inches just after the wet. SO be careful of the left tyres on the side of the verge.
  • The Northern Territory has its fair share of creepy crawlies: mosquitoes and other biting insects, spiders and snakes. If walking, keep to clearly marked paths, wear protective clothing and sturdy shoes. When camping, keep your tent zipped and tap your shoes out before putting them on. Mosquitoes are most present at dawn and dusk, so cover up with long pants and sleeves, and use a reliable repellent or mosquito coils. Roof Top tent camper rentals with Australia 4wd Rentals s are popular for this very reason.
