Alligator, Bucket and Red Lily billabongs - All three sites will reopen on Saturday 8 August, 2026
Access is currently limited to high clearance 4WD vehicle only, with significant water remaining on and around some sections of the tracks.
Please drive to the conditions, take care on wet roads and remain aware of crocodile risks around waterways. Access from Old Jim Jim Road remains closed at this time.
Two Mile Hole and Four Mile Hole billabongs - Road upgrade works continue with a further update to be provided next week.
Like many of these hidden gems, once opened the dirt track in deteriorates quickly, and many an angler has come back out onto the Arnhem Highway with one or two trailer mudguards missing.
The same can be said of the track into Alligator, Bucket and Red Lily lagoons.
It’s not only corrugated but very undulating too, so slow speeds are the order of the day.
Red Lily is the hardest to get to, and just doing that is a real adventure.
A 5m trailer boat is about the maximum for towing to Red Lily as there are many narrow, tight turns, and just launching can be an exasperating affair.
